You've got questions, we've got answers.

Q: What are the eligibility requirements for the CamdenPLUS Residency Program?

A: Under the certification guidelines of the New Jersey Department of Education, all CamdenPLUS Residency candidates must hold a Master’s degree (or higher) and have a minimum of 4 years professional experience in a certified, school-based role.

Q: Are you currently accepting applications?

A: Applications are currently closed and will reopen in fall 2017 for the 2018-2019 school year. Sign-up for our mailing list to stay in touch and be the first to know when we begin accepting applications again.

Q: Can I apply for the program if I’m already certified?

A: Yes. CamdenPLUS provides job-embedded professional development and support that can even benefit participants who have already completed traditional certification programs.

Q: Can I reapply if my application was rejected?

A: Candidates may only apply to CamdenPLUS once during a yearly admissions cycle but are welcome to reapply during subsequent school years.

Q: What are the dates for the 2017 Summer Institute?

A: Our 2017 summer institute is scheduled for July 2017 (exact dates to be determined). Residents accepted into the program are required to attend the summer institute in its entirety.

Q: Will I be guaranteed a placement as a Resident? Will I be guaranteed a placement as a Principal or Assistant Principal following the program?

A: Program participants will be provided a placement for their Residency in a school-based instructional leadership role – contingent upon successful completion of the summer institute, available openings and collective bargaining agreements. Upon program completion, program graduates will be responsible for securing their own administrative position – placements are not guaranteed by CamdenPLUS. However, we will help to coordinate interviews and prepare Residents to be as successful as possible in their post-Residency process.

Q: How will I be matched to a placement school? Can I stay at the school where I currently work?

A: To the extent possible, participants will be matched with a school that fits the type of school they have indicated a preference for – district or charter. Ideally, CamdenPLUS will also accommodate requests of host Mentors and Residents to meet in advance before confirming final matches.

Q: What can I expect from my Mentor at my placement site?

A: Mentors will commit to provide Residents with meaningful learning opportunities throughout the year – from managing a team of teachers to leading staff professional development. CamdenPLUS will provide Mentors with training – as well as quarterly recommendations for the responsibilities Residents should be asked to take on. CamdenPLUS coaches will communicate regularly with Mentors to facilitate the most meaningful partnership possible.

Q: How will my salary be covered?

A: Residents will be employed by Camden City School District or participating CMOs. At no point in time are Residents employed by CamdenPLUS.

Q: What is the cost of the program?

A: Thanks to a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, the full tuition cost of more than $20,000 to provide Residents with training, coaching, textbooks, and instructional materials will be provided at no cost to the Resident.

Q: What if I have additional questions?

A: If you have additional questions, you can contact the CamdenPLUS team at
